Privacy Policy for Narro Reader

Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 5, 2026

In short: Narro Reader is a text-to-speech reading app. Your documents, reading progress, and most app settings stay on your device. We do not operate a cloud service that stores your books, PDFs, images, or clipboard content. When you use the mobile app with an internet connection, limited data may be processed by third-party services for advertising, analytics (with consent where required), crash reporting, and app updates.

This Privacy Policy explains how Gergely Kajtar ("we", "us", or "our"), the developer of the Narro Reader mobile application ("Narro Reader" or the "App"), collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the App on iOS or Android.

By using the App, you acknowledge this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Who We Are

Data controller: Gergely Kajtar (developer of Narro Reader)

Country: Hungary

Contact: https://kgergooo.github.io/about/#/

Narro Reader does not require you to create an account. We do not provide user registration, login, or cloud storage for your reading content.

2. Local-First Design

The core purpose of Narro Reader is to read content aloud on your device. In normal use:

  • Imported and created documents (PDF, EPUB, DOCX, TXT, images, clipboard text, and similar content) are stored locally on your device.
  • Reading position, app settings, voice preferences, and similar app state are stored locally on your device.
  • Text-to-speech processing runs on your device using system voices and, if you choose to download it, an optional on-device AI voice model.
  • Optical character recognition (OCR) for images and scanned pages uses on-device processing through Google ML Kit. We do not upload your images to our own servers for OCR.

We do not operate backend servers that receive or store the text of documents you read in the App.

3. Information We Process

3.1 Information stored only on your device

This information stays on your phone or tablet unless you choose to share it outside the App (for example, by using the share sheet, exporting content, or opening a feedback form):

  • Documents you import or create, including file metadata and extracted text
  • Reading progress, bookmarks, and reader settings
  • Language, voice, theme, and other preferences
  • Downloaded optional AI voice model files
  • Clipboard content you choose to read, when you use clipboard reading features
  • Photos or files you choose to import from your gallery, files app, share menu, or home screen widget

3.2 Information processed when you use online features

Some features need an internet connection. When you use them, data may leave your device as described below:

  • URL reader: If you enter a web address, the App fetches that page from the internet directly from your device. The website you request may log your IP address and other standard connection data. We do not store the page on our servers, but we may record analytics about the action as described in Section 6.
  • Optional AI voice download: If you tap to download an optional voice model, the App downloads files from third-party content delivery networks (including Hugging Face and our fallback hosting). Those providers may log standard request data such as IP address.
  • Live app updates: The App may check for updated App bundles and download them when a newer version is available. This transmits your App version, platform, and connection metadata.
  • Feedback form: If you choose to send feedback, the App opens a Google Form in your browser. Any information you submit there is governed by Google's privacy policy and your choices in that form.

3.3 Information collected automatically on mobile

When you use the native iOS or Android App with internet access, we and our service providers may automatically process:

  • Device type, operating system version, and App version
  • General device language settings
  • Advertising identifiers and ad-related signals where ads are shown
  • App usage events such as document type opened, feature errors, language selections, and update status
  • Crash reports, error messages, and diagnostic logs
  • IP address and network-related metadata sent to third-party providers

We do not intentionally collect special category data (such as health, political opinions, or religious beliefs). However, content you import into the App may contain sensitive information. That content remains on your device unless you choose to share it elsewhere.

4. Device Permissions

The App may request access to device features so you can use reading features. You can deny or revoke permissions in your device settings, although some features may not work without them.

  • Photos / gallery / files: To import images and documents for reading and OCR
  • Camera: To capture images for text recognition and reading
  • Clipboard: To read text or images you copied when you use clipboard reading features
  • Storage / documents: To save, open, and manage files used by the App on your device
  • Internet: For ads, analytics, app updates, URL reading, optional voice model downloads, and third-party diagnostics
  • Tracking (iOS only): Apple may show an App Tracking Transparency prompt related to personalized advertising, as described in Section 5

5. Advertising, Consent, and Tracking

The free version of Narro Reader shows banner advertisements through Google AdMob.

5.1 Google User Messaging Platform (UMP)

When the App starts and your device is online, you may see Google's consent form for ads and related technologies. Depending on your region and choices:

  • We may show ads only if consent rules allow it
  • Firebase Analytics and related Google consent flags may be enabled or disabled based on your choices
  • If consent information is unavailable or you are offline at launch, analytics and ad personalization defaults are treated conservatively until connectivity and consent information are available

5.2 Apple App Tracking Transparency (ATT)

On iOS and iPadOS, if ads are allowed, the App may request Apple's tracking authorization. If you deny tracking authorization, ads may still appear but are more likely to be non-personalized.

5.3 What advertising partners may process

Ad providers such as Google may process advertising identifiers, device information, ad interaction data, approximate location derived from IP address, and similar ad-related data. On iOS, SKAdNetwork identifiers may also be used for ad attribution.

For more information, review Google's policies:

5.4 Changing your advertising choices

You can change ad and tracking choices by:

  • Responding to the Google consent form when it appears in the App
  • On iOS: Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking
  • On Android: Google Settings / device ad personalization settings, where available
  • Resetting advertising identifiers in your device settings

6. Analytics

We use Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the App is used and to improve reliability and features.

Analytics is disabled unless consent rules allow it. When enabled, Firebase Analytics may receive events such as:

  • Document type opened (PDF, EPUB, image, clipboard, URL, and similar)
  • Feature errors and import failures
  • Selected text-to-speech language
  • Detected content language
  • Network online/offline status
  • Live update status
  • In-app review prompt outcomes

Some analytics events may include additional parameters. In particular, when you use the URL reader, the App may log the full URL you opened or attempted to open as part of an analytics event. URLs can sometimes contain personal or sensitive information. Analytics collection for these events follows the same consent rules described in Section 5.

Firebase may also receive a Firebase app instance identifier and a general language code user property when analytics is enabled.

Review Google's privacy documentation linked in Section 5 for details about Google's processing and retention.

7. Crash and Error Reporting

We use Sentry to collect crash reports and application errors in production builds so we can diagnose and fix problems.

Sentry may receive information such as:

  • Error and crash messages and stack traces
  • App version
  • Device model and operating system version
  • IP address and standard request metadata processed by Sentry

We use Sentry for app stability and debugging, not for advertising. We aim to avoid sending document text, clipboard content, imported file contents, or other user content in error reports, but errors may occasionally include incidental technical data from the App state.

Sentry is currently enabled in production regardless of advertising/analytics consent. Our lawful basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in maintaining and improving App reliability and security.

8. App Updates

We use Capgo Capacitor Updater to deliver updated App bundles after the App has been installed from the App Store or Google Play. This helps us fix bugs and ship improvements between store releases.

When the App checks for updates, it may send:

  • Current App version
  • Platform (iOS or Android)
  • Connection metadata such as IP address
  • An authorization token used to access our update server

Downloaded update bundles are installed locally on your device. This processing is necessary to provide and maintain the App.

10. How We Use Information and Legal Bases

If you are in Hungary or the European Economic Area, we rely on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract / providing the App: Local storage, reading features, OCR, text-to-speech, share/import features, and optional downloads you request
  • Legitimate interests: App updates, crash reporting, fraud/abuse prevention, and improving stability and security, balanced against your rights
  • Consent: Personalized advertising and Firebase Analytics where required by law or platform rules
  • Legal obligation: Where we must comply with applicable law

We use information to:

  • Provide text-to-speech reading and related App features
  • Store your content and settings locally on your device
  • Show ads in the free version of the App
  • Measure App usage and diagnose errors
  • Deliver bug fixes and updates
  • Respond to support or feedback you choose to send
  • Comply with legal obligations and enforce our rights

We do not use the App to send marketing emails, push notification campaigns, or promotional SMS messages.

11. Data Retention

  • On-device content and settings: Kept until you delete them in the App, reset App data, or uninstall the App
  • Analytics data: Retained according to Google Firebase settings and Google's policies
  • Advertising data: Retained according to Google's ad and consent policies
  • Sentry error data: Retained according to Sentry project settings and Sentry's policies
  • Update server logs: Retained only as long as needed for update delivery and security

12. International Data Transfers

Your information may be processed in Hungary and in other countries where our service providers operate, including the United States. Those countries may have different data protection laws than your country of residence.

Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as provider contractual commitments and, where applicable, standard contractual clauses or equivalent protections offered by service providers.

13. Your Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights including:

  • Access to personal information we process about you
  • Correction of inaccurate information
  • Deletion of personal information
  • Restriction or objection to certain processing
  • Withdrawal of consent where processing is based on consent
  • Data portability, where applicable
  • Lodging a complaint with a supervisory authority

To exercise your rights, contact us using the details in Section 18. We may need to verify your request.

If you are in Hungary, you may contact the Hungarian National Authority for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH). If you are elsewhere in the EEA, you may contact your local data protection authority.

14. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information through online services we control, contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete such information where required.

15. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Because your documents remain on your device, you should also protect your device with a passcode, biometrics, or other security controls.

16. Links and Third-Party Content

The App may open third-party websites or services, including web pages you request in the URL reader, feedback forms, app store pages, and content delivery networks. We do not control those third parties and are not responsible for their privacy practices. Review their privacy policies separately.

17. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes may also be communicated through the App or our website where appropriate.

Your continued use of the App after an update means you accept the revised Privacy Policy.
